EPM will make a public auction to sell 550,000 Certificates Emission Reduction (CER), from the generation of energy from the small hydroelectric plants “La Herradura” and “La Vuelta”, registered as a Clean Development Mechanism project (CDM).
EPM has 24 hydroelectric plants, a gas thermal plant and a wind power plant, with a capacity of approximately 3,200 MW. With the other energy subsidiaries of the EPM Group, this figure amounts to 37 plants, with an installed capacity of 3,689 MW.
The business group today has several projects, including: La Vuelta and La Herradura, Jepírachi Wind Farm, Aguas Claras treatment plant and Los Cururos Wind Farm, as well as wooded areas, which reduce GHG emissions (certificates emission reduction) and are registered in various international standards, including the CDM, Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), Carbon Climate and Biodiversity (CCB +) and Gold Standard.
Thanks to this, EPM has certificates emission reduction CERs that can be used either to offset the Carbon tax (projects in Colombia) or to offset the internal carbon footprint of companies with a view to being carbon neutral. A CER is equivalent to a ton of CO2 that is no longer emitted into the atmosphere. In this sense, with the bonds that EPM will auction, 550,000 tons of CO2 will be compensated, as an important environmental contribution.
The auction
The CERs that will auction EPM come from the power generation of the small hydroelectric plants La Herradura and La Vuelta, between 2010 and 2017, all duly certified by the United Nations Framework Commission on Climate Change.
The Company will receive on August 28, between 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., offers to purchase rights on these CERs, from legal entities, national or foreign, individually or in a consortium.
In total, 11 blocks, of 50,000 CER each, will be auctioned for a total of 550,000. Those interested should make a purchase offer in a sealed envelope indicating the price in Colombian pesos for CER (COP / CER) that they are willing to pay for each block. The offer must be made in the format attached to the specifications.
In the search for environmentally responsible management, EPM develops projects that reduce the emission of Greenhouse Gases that cause climate change.
When it does so, it generates Emission Reduction Certificates, CERs, a product that also contributes so that other agents can also achieve their environmental objectives, because the fight against Climate Change is a commitment and responsibility of all.
